Today, July 14th, is Bastille Day. It is France's national day and commemorates the storming of the Bastille on the 14th of July 1789. I won't give you a french history lesson here, as I'm no expert, but as I will be heading to France in just 6 weeks, I thought it was appropriate to post a French themed post on Bastille Day. Today is a tribute to macarons, in my opinion the finest food to come from France. Hang on, I temporarily forgot about Brie cheese, I apologise to my favourite cheese and say, that macarons are one of the finest foods from France. I took a macaron cooking class earlier this year, but I'm yet to actually try and make them myself at home. I think my skill, where macarons are concerned, is in the eating. Irresistibly sweet, they have a delicate crisp shell with a soft ganache filling and come in a endless combination of flavours. My favourite is passionfruit macaron with chocolate ganache filling- perfection. And so, a tribute to macaroons...

Macaron fact: The original macaron was made at Paris patisserie, Laduree, who are said to sell 12,000 a day! (I intend to significantly contribute to this number whilst in Paris)
