croque madame and the search for melbourne's best brunch

We were driving down Church st Hawthorn a few weeks ago when a little French cafe Le Flaneur caught my eye. I hadn't noticed it before but it looked very sweet and quirky so we decided to stop for some brunch. Being a French-inspired cafe, I opted for a classically French breakfast and had Croque Madame: a take on a ham and cheese toastie with b├ęchamel sauce and a fried egg on top. It was made with deliciously fresh brioche bread and was very tasty (but also very rich). I think it would be the perfect answer to a big night out. I also had a green tea which came in a cute glass teapot with a mismatched, colourful cup and saucer. With a new Parisian pastry chef on board Le Flaneur will only get better and is definitely worth another visit soon.
