love is...

deb's chocolate mousse
grandma's homemade custard
caring visits from family and friends
a lovingly handmade quilt to rest under
a husband who delicately washes your hair
an entire florist shop in vases in my lounge room
a gifted and vast collection of my favourite magazines
parents that individually select a box of my favourite chocolates

Some lessons in love, learned and appreciated recently while I was sick.

tabitha shafran

Good morning dreamers! A beautiful find for an otherwise dreary Monday morning.
Having worked with the likes of Hurley, The Cassette Society, Insight and Stussy, Australian illustrator and designer Tabitha Shafran has more than earned her stripes. I stumbled across her work thanks to a tip-off from Free People, but of course found her work instantly recognisable from the fashion work, mostly tee prints, that she has done. With a beautiful mix of monotone and colour illustrations, her work is an eclectic mix of bohemian and organic subject matter, her work, ageless and beautiful. I'm also following her blog now as her lifestyle posts as well as art updates are adorable and enviable!

stela 9

Founded in 2010 by an LA based ex-archaeologist, Stela 9 is my new bag crush brand and it's not hard to see why! Turning to her scavenger-hunting ways, along with her husband, she took to traveling the world to find precious stones, unique handcrafted pieces and recycled textiles to create a unique, bohemian range of bags. And the best part is, a percentage of profits go directly to supporting the long term sustainability of the communities that these pieces come from.

So firstly I must apologise for my lack of posting of late. It's been a rough couple of weeks in the THSD world health-wise but I am back with bolder dreams than ever! I hope that you're enjoying my blog and please don't hesitate to comment on posts or follow me on Bloglovin', Twitter, Facebook, Instagram (@shes_dreaming) or Pinterest.

pinterest

Has anybody else joined the crazy image-pinning world that is Pinterest? I started pinning a few months ago but have only recently really embraced it. You can find me on Pinterest here. As it turns out, I'm really enjoying having an online space to group together my ideas and all things visually beautiful and creative. Here is a sneak peek at some of my pin boards...

sustainable living

I am really excited to be participating in The Big Weekend, part of Melbourne's Sustainable Living Festival. Taking place this coming Friday through Sunday, join me at Federation Square and enjoy a stroll around the Green Market which will feature Raw Wine and Beer (organic, bio dynamic, vegan drinks), Green Magazine (sustainable design), Divine Ice Cream (healthy, organic ice cream), Vegilicious (wholesome vegetarian food) and the Refugee Action Collective, just to name a few.

On Saturday you can find me at Birrarung Marr where I will be rolling up my sleeves and helping you decorate your ride for the Etsy Decorated Bikes competition. This is a free event and all you need to bring is your bike- we'll even provide the decorations courtesy of Reverse Truck Art.

Hope to see you there!

Well, it appears that after months of solid colour-blocking fashion, we're about to see a 180 turn in the fashion world. Print on print is on its way and I for one cannot wait! The latest Topshop collaboration, with Mary Katrantzou is a beautiful expression of print and colour clash and I adore the fact that they have shot these outfits against a busy floral background to add extra dimension and complexity to the shoot. Fingers crossed this range is coming to Topshop Melbourne.

By the way, I am preparing a new 'tea' related post today. I'm kicking it off by drinking a delicious cup of lavender grey tea. If you're a tea-drinking, fair-trade-loving fan, stay tuned...

nail art

It's all about DIY nails in the blog world at the moment so today I thought I'd share with you a little DIY for Aztec inspired nails.

What you will need:
4 x nail polish colours (I used silver, blue, coral and black)
a couple of tooth picks
a fine tip brush
clean nails

Step 1: paint a light or bright colour over your entire nail. (I have used coral)
Step 2: using the fine tipped brush, paint a contrast colour (blue) stripe across your nail near the cuticle and a create a V shape at the tip of your nail.
Step 3: using a light colour (silver) and the fine tipped brush, paint a second stripe near your cuticle and also mirror the V shape at the tip of your nail, leaving a band of the base colour visible.
Step 4: Using your base colour (coral) and black, use the toothpicks to add embellishment in the form of dotted lines and outlines to your design.
Step 5: Admire your fun Aztec nail design!
