echoes of others

On the weekend Ben and I spent the afternoon in the city at the Human Rights Arts and Film Festival. At QV's No Vacancy Gallery several artists displayed their work in an exhibition titled Echoes of Others, reflecting on the miscommunications that seem to shape the world and affect the way we treat one another. The festival, now in its fifth year, aims to advance basic human rights, fair trade and environmentally friendly policies and practices and I'm hoping that the festival is even bigger and better next year.

the travel diaries: nusa dua by day

photographer: benni knop at nude pixels

I'm sorry that it's taken a while for me to post these, but here they are: the second instalment of photos from our recent holiday in Bali. We had some fun taking photos in the pool at our resort (The Westin) and on the beautiful beach, just a few metres walk from our room. Nusa Dua was the place to be for beautiful clear water, soft sand and Ben's favourite- water sports. We had a great time zooming around on a jet ski on our last day. Oh how I would love to be back there relaxing on a banana lounge! Click here to see more happy snaps from our time away.

ali mitton x ed sheeran

This evening whilst blogging I am listening to Ed Sheeran's '+' album. If you haven't heard it yet... get on it. No, really... do it now! It's the best album I've heard in a long time and I'm seriously hoping some tickets to his Melbourne show drop from the sky and land in my lap. It's not the sort of music for my "treadmill mix", nor my "party playlist" but as it happens, is the ideal background music for perusing the blog and photography work of Queenslander Ali Mitton. Don't you just love her work?!

the travel diaries: bangkok bound

Greetings from humid Bangkok where I find myself this week for an inspiring World Vision Conference. As I write this post I am admiring the incredible fireworks display occurring just outside my hotel window- spectacular! I always stock-up on magazines and snacks before I board a plane. This issue of Real Living magazine is a particularly good one too. I'm loving the touches of neon that are making their way from the fashion pages to interiors. Oh, peaches and cream lollies in the party mix are just the best.

can you see my vision?

No, this isn't a tribute to Seal. Nor is it a post about Australia's apparent obsession with the latest reality hit 'The Voice', featuring Seal as a judge. This post is about a cause so very dear to my heart. It is a little bit of a change of pace from my normal fast-paced fashion themed posts or food-obsessed rants. This is about those who do not have access to the food, clothing, clean water, education and basic human rights that you and I take for granted every single day.

It's about the children.

I am honoured to have recently started working for World Vision Australia. The work that they do to change the lives of disadvantaged and at risk children and communities is incredible and truly making a difference. If you are interested in helping World Vision or if you would like to find out more, please visit www.worldvision.com.au. Sponsoring a child is one of the most important and fulfilling things you'll do, I promise you.

endless summer

images courtesy of www.freepeople.com

I can't resist posting a Free People catalogue! I just love the crochet bathers in hot coral. I'm sad to tell the story of the coral hand-crocheted bikini I bought on my recent trip to Bali. I proudly wore them for 1 day before the bleach used on the towels at our resort turned them a yellowish colour right on the butt! A sad tale indeed but a good reminder for us all about the harshness of many laundry cleaners. Just imagine what it was doing to my skin and to the environment as it was washed down the drain! Maybe I can just replace them with this one-piece...

a sunny disposition

top shop bralette / sportsgirl tank / h&m shorts / op shop sunglasses / bali beach bangle
photography by Benni Knop (show him some blog love here!)

Wondering through our resort in Nusa Dua, we took the opportunity to snap a couple of outfit pics. I love this tank from Sportsgirl. It's a great statement piece and one of those versatile tops that you can change the look of simply by changing the bottom you pair it with and the way you accessorise. I have to say, there wasn't too much accessorising going on in Bali. Minimalist was the approach in the humid Bali sun. I'm getting so much wear out of this silver bangle that I bought on the beach in Bali. Drinking cocktails and shopping at the same time is the ultimate way to shop!
