take ten: soulful sisters

image by glen allsop from here

Okay, I know this is supposed to be a take FIVE post, but I just couldn't narrow this list down to five. This doesn't even include my all time great loves (Annie Lennox, Tracy Chapman and all the others we've grown up with!) So here you have my current top ten favourite female singer / songwriters. These women have the ability to inspire me, to speak into a situation in my life, to uplift my spirit and to draw my concentrated thoughts to the message of their songs. I've also shared my favourite song by each artist (again, so tough to cut down the list!) These songs have character and life in them and for each of these songs I have lost count of the number of times I have listened to them, cried to them, belted my heart out in the car to them and shared them with my friends.

1. Brooke Fraser | Waste another day

2. Adele | Hometown glory

3. Eva Cassidy | You take my breath away

4. Sia | Breathe me

5. Regina Spektor | Samson

6. Sarah McLachlan | Answer

7. Sara Bareilles | Gravity

8. Ingrid Michaelson | Keep breathing

9. Jewel | Hands

10. Amy Winehouse | Back to black

Let life move you,
Sarah x
