When I was younger, I didn't like my middle name.
I don't know why, I guess I just thought that it wasn't as pretty as names like Louise, Jessica and Stephanie which were all popular for girls my age. But as I've grown older, I've come to love my middle name. In fact, I think it's my favourite part of my name.
My name is Sarah Joy.
Today, it's my Mum's birthday. In fact, it's a significant birthday and so today's post is a nod to my Mum, the other 'Joy' in my family. As I reflect on the things that bring joy in life and what it means to have a joyful disposition, I find that my name is an everyday reminder that life is meant to be filled with happiness. Now I know that I'll face challenges and some days even sadness but it is my mandate to celebrate and be thankful for the good things in life, to cultivate a condition of joyfulness for myself, my workplace, my friends and my family. It's a choice, and I choose joy. Not just for today, but again when I wake up tomorrow...
